Merlot Futures 2025

The Merlot grape originates from the Bordeaux area of France, and is the most widely-planted grape variety in that region. Our Merlot grapevines were first established on our estate vineyard in 1983 and have been a major component of our Aca Modot blend since that time. We planted more Merlot in 2010, giving us the opportunity to produce a stand alone varietal in recent years. Expect vibrant fruit flavors and mild, yet firm tannins for a complexity and structure that will continue to shine through as this varietal comes into its own here on our estate vineyard. 
*Interesting fact: Cabernet Franc is one of the parents of Merlot, with the rare Magdeleine Noire des Charentes being the other. This makes Merlot a half-sibling of Cabernet Sauvignon.
