Merlot Futures 2024 / Aged 10 Months

The Merlot grape originates from the Bordeaux area of France, and is the most widely-planted grape variety in that region. Our Merlot grapevines were first established on our estate vineyard in 1983 and have been a major component of our Aca Modot blend since that time. We planted more Merlot grapevines in 2012, making a total of apporximately 2/3 of an acre, and giving us the opportunity to produce a stand alone varietal in recent years.

Interesting fact: Cabernet Franc is one of the parents of Merlot, with the rare Magdeleine Noire des Charentes being the other. This makes Merlot a half-sibling of Cabernet Sauvignon.
